Super Healthy Pineapple-Mango Turmeric Smoothie

Start your day with a tumbler of this sunny smoothie - chock full of nutrients and designed to keep you feeling full and happy all morning!

Ingredients:

Handful of

  • Frozen organic pineapple chunks

  • Frozen organic mango chunks

1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric (or ¼ inch (or more) turmeric root, grated)

Few grindings of black pepper (to boost turmeric effects)

Sprinkle of cardamom seeds (optional, but delicious)

½ inch chunk of ginger, grated

½ - 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder (I like Solgar Whey-to-Go, no Stevia)

1 heaping tablespoon of RETREATmd Fiber Mix (recipe below)

1 probiotic capsule (emptied in)

1 tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil

10 oz unsweetened almond, cashew, or coconut milk

Water/ice to thin, as desired

Blend and slurp!

Makes 2 medium-sized glasses

RETREATmd Fiber Mix: 1 cup natural wheat bran or gluten-free oat bran, 1 cup ground flax seeds, ½ cup chia seeds, ½ cup raw pumpkin seeds. Mix together in a bottle or container and store in fridge. Use at least 1 tablespoon daily in smoothies, yogurt, or soup. (I never leave home without it!)

Food as Medicine: Pineapple and mango - aid digestion and contain anti-inflammatory, antioxidant phytochemicals, vitamins A, B, C and E, lots of minerals including potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, and zinc. Turmeric and black pepper help fight inflammation AND colon and breast cancer. Whey protein contains muscle-building amino acids and is very satisfying to keep you from being hungry. Fiber (prebiotic) and probiotics work together to optimize gut health. Coconut oil is made up of easy-to-digest healthy fatty acids that may help reduce belly fat (preliminary studies show). Super healthy and  it’s delicious!
